Update PHP on a 1&1 Cloud Server With Plesk

For any 1&1 Cloud Server with Plesk, applications like PHP should always be upgraded and managed through the Plesk interface. Follow the instructions in this tutorial to learn how to install and run PHP on a Plesk server.
- A 1&1 Cloud Server with Plesk (any operating system). The server must be created with the Standard installation. The Minimal installation does not include PHP.
This tutorial uses the Power User view. You can change the Plesk view by clicking Change View at the bottom of the column on the left.

Check the PHP Version
To check which version of PHP is installed on the server, go to Tools and Settings.
Select Plesk > Update and Upgrade Settings.
Go to the All Packages tab.
Enter "php" in the search field and click to search the list of packages.
Check the version for the PHP "base" package. The description will be "PHP scripting language for creating dynamic web sites."
In this example, the server is running PHP version 5.4.16.
To upgrade PHP, go to Tools and Settings.
Select Plesk > Updates and Upgrades.
Select Add/Remove Components.
Click to expand the + Web Hosting menu.
Click to expand the + PHP interpreter versions menu.
Choose the PHP version you wish to install. For this example we will install PHP 5.5.
Click the drop-down menu, then click Install to select this version.
Now that the version has been added to the install list, scroll down and click Continue.
Plesk will begin installing the new version. This process can take a while, depending on the size and number of packages to be installed/upgraded.
When the install process is complete, click OK.
